Truckers be aware
Starting next week, the first major mobile carrier will discontinue 3G services, which could result Electronic Logging Device (ELD) violations for truckers who haven’t transitioned to
compatible devices. Starting on February 22, 2022, AT&T 3G will sunset to make way for more advanced 4G and 5G services. This is the first major mobile carrier to sunset 3G services, but
sunset dates for other carriers are upcoming throughout 2022. Truck drivers who have not upgraded their 3G compatible ELDs could face hours of service violations once sunsetting begins.
The agency says that “any ELD that requires 3G cellular connectivity to perform its functionality will no longer be in compliance.
