Revoked ELD
Motor carriers using either Falcon ELD or KSK ELD must replace the devices by Nov. 13 . The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has removed Falcon ELD and KSK ELD from its list of registered electronic logging devices. The Revoked ELD are since a spate of removals earlier this year.
ELD providers must self-certify that their devices meet the requirements for ELDs outlined by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations. If devices are later found to be non-compliant, FMCSA removes them from its registry.
The agency will contact motor carriers using the revoked ELD, who must discontinue use and revert to paper logs or logging software to record hours of service data. They must then replace the revoked devices with compliant ELDs before Nov. 13, 2023. Carriers operating with the revoked devices after Nov. 13 will be considered to be operating without an ELD, and officials will be able to place those drivers out-of-service.
However, until Nov. 13, FMCSA is urging safety officials not to cite drivers using the Falcon ELD or KSK ELD. Instead, the agency suggests officials inspect drivers’ paper logs or logging software, using the ELDs as a backup method to review HOS data. If the ELD provider corrects all identified deficiencies, FMCSA will place the ELD back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry.
