Refrigerated trailers
Refrigerated trailers maintain temperature, humidity and airflow to keep products from spoiling during shipping and storage. They’re an instrumental part of the cold chain process. Reefer trailers are also used for the military, oil and gas, chemicals and dangerous goods. The standard length of refrigerated trailers are 48 to 53 feet. They are typically 8 feet and 6 inches long. The internal width of the trailer is 8 feet and 1.5 inches. The standard reefer trailer has a tare weight, including tires and wheels, of 12,455 pounds. The unit itself weighs an additional 2,000 pounds.
Refrigerated trailers
Reefer trailers have a gross vehicle weight rating of 65,000 pounds, while the standard payload capacity is 55,000 pounds. . They are designed with more insulation to help these units maintain consistent internal temperatures. . Some designs require up to 1,000 pounds of excess insulation, which means that a reefer typically has a lower cargo-carrying capacity than a dry van trailer. Reefer units will also have a way for drivers to remotely monitor the temperature of their trailer and ensure it is working correctly. Without reefer trailers, many of the food items that we enjoy on a daily basis would not be possible to transport or store.
