The Pennsylvania Turnpike’s tolls are being increased
Truckers traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike except for the Southern Beltway (PA Turnpike 576) west of Pittsburgh should expect a 5% toll increase that will take effect in early 2022.
This will apply for both E-ZPass and Toll By Plate.
According to The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission toll for a Class-5 tractor trailer will increase from $13 to $13.70 for E-ZPass and from $26.60 to $28 for Toll By Plate users.
Starting in July 2022, the PTC funding requirement to PennDOT under Act 44 of 2007 will be cut to $50 million annually with $400 million of funding to come from the Commonwealth’s Motor Vehicle Sales and Use Tax.
PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton explained that enables them to begin to offer some relief to customers from those heftier toll increases and refocus on essential improvements to the roadway.
The PTC has made payments to PennDOT since 2007 and has increased the toll rates every year since 2009 in order to make the payments. During that 14 year period, the PTC has paid PennDOT $7.45 billion in toll-backed funding.
